What the free optimizer does
It runs the same pipeline as the paid image optimization API: it applies the EXIF rotation first and strips the metadata after, converts Display P3 to sRGB, and writes a baseline JPEG resized to at most 1600 pixels wide. No AI is involved.
Limits
- One image per run, up to 3 MB.
- JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC input.
- Five runs per day from the same browser.
- Results are deleted within the hour, or at once when you download them.
Questions
Does it handle iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes, HEIC files up to 3 MB are accepted. The rotation is applied from the EXIF data before the metadata is removed, so the photo is not sideways.
Does it keep the colours?
Display P3 photos are converted to sRGB, so the colours look the same in a browser and in a PDF.
Is the output a progressive JPEG?
No. The output is baseline JPEG, which is what a PDF and most viewers need.
Batches and more sizes
Batches of up to 250 images, a fixed width, a byte target and WebP output are in the image optimization API. A batch charges only for the images that succeeded.
